SONGS

I Don't Have a Birthday Anymore
I am not a musician nor a singer, but I have a way with words. I plow the earth in my mind and earworms wriggle to the surface. When I recently visited the ER, I heard a nurse ask a patient, “When were you born?” She replied, “I don’t have a birthday anymore” and I immediately recognized a perfect country heartbreak song title. I wrote the lyrics in a few days. The last chorus:

Give me half a tombstone
for a life half lived
Just write the day
I passed away
I don’t need a birthday
anymore

Don't Dream About Me
Genre: Bluegrass. A woman reads the riot act to her lazy, lawless boyfriend:

I won’t have a bun in the oven
if you can’t make any dough

Top of the World
Genre: Cowboy Story. A fugitive literally on top of the world shares his loneliness with reindeer and polar bears:

Still looking for that seal
or am I your next meal?
It’s scary on top of the world

Cannabis Cannibal
A novelty song with a political twist.
